Dear apple trees: I am sorry they didn’t love you like I loved you. Why someone would cut down 100 year old heritage apple trees to put in a garage…I don’t know. Thank-you for the shade. Thank-you for the yummy apple pies, apple jam, apple crumble…I am sorry I couldn’t be there for you in the end. In my mind, you are both still alive, green and mossy. Birds take shelter in your branches and rain drips from your leaves on to the garden below.
